A joist pedestal for low heights

The B20 pedestal from Vérindal lets you build the foundations of a deck in natural wood or composite boards, without much height to make up. Stable and durable, it supports a load of 1 tonne per pedestal and withstands frost (-20°C) as well as UV (+80°C).

Like the other pedestals in the B range, its head is fitted with a 3-hole drilled tab which lets you screw the joist directly onto it, with at least two fixing points.

The pedestal is laid directly on the ground, without fixing, and is simply held in place by the weight of the joist resting on it. This loose-lay installation also ensures good ventilation of the structure.

Need a different height?

The Vérindal B range covers several heights, all with the same drilled-tab head. Each model has its own extension:

Pedestal Adjustment height Compatible extension
B20 pedestal 20 to 30 mm RB10 extension (up to 40 mm)
B40 pedestal 40 to 50 mm R20 extension (3 maximum)
B50 pedestal 55 to 75 mm R20 extension (3 maximum)
B70 pedestal 75 to 115 mm R20 and R60 extensions
B100 pedestal 105 to 170 mm R20 and R60 extensions
B150 pedestal 160 to 230 mm R20 and R60 extensions

B20 pedestal components

The B20 pedestal is delivered assembled and consists of three main parts, all in 20% talc polypropylene (recycled):

Tip: draw up a layout plan

Before starting the job, draw a scale plan of your deck to calculate precisely the number of B20 pedestals, joists and wooden boards required.

Recommended spacing

Place the B20 pedestals every 50 cm along a first row, then step back 70 cm to lay a new row along the length of the joists.

Steps for building a wooden deck with B20 pedestals

1. Prepare the ground
On a concrete slab or an old deck, lay directly. On raw ground: dig 15 cm, lay a geotextile, backfill with crushed gravel, compact and check the level.
2. Lay the pedestals on the ground
Lay a first row of pedestals every 50 cm, then a second row 70 cm further on, and so on up to the far end of the deck.
3. Fix the joists
Lay the joists on the pedestal heads and fix them with at least two screws through the drilled tab. Set the height with a slight slope for water drainage.
4. Lay the decking
Lay the boards perpendicular to the joists, starting from a wall with a 5 mm expansion gap. Screw 20 mm from the edge with special decking screws.

Choosing your height with the RB10 extension

The B20 pedestal adjusts natively from 20 to 30 mm. It has its own dedicated extension, the RB10.
