A joist pedestal for medium heights

The Vérindal B40 pedestal is designed to support a deck in natural wood or composite that needs levelling from 40 to 50 mm. Strong and durable, it supports a load of 1 tonne per pedestal at the centre and withstands both frost (-20°C) and UV (+80°C).

Like the other pedestals in the B range, its head is fitted with a 3-hole drilled tab, which lets you screw the joist directly onto it, with at least two fixing points.

The pedestal rests directly on the ground, without fixing, and is simply held in place by the weight of the joist on top of it. This loose-lay installation also ensures good ventilation of the structure.

The B40 pedestal is delivered assembled and consists of three main parts, all in 20% talc-filled polypropylene (recycled):

1	BH40 base : base of the pedestal Ø200 × 19 mm, 104 g. Wide base for optimal stability on the ground.
2	EH40 nut : adjustment ring Height 24 mm, 40 g. Screws onto the base to adjust the height precisely.
3	TB40 screw : tab head L120 × W61 × H41 mm, 50 g. Tab drilled with 3 holes for screw-fixing the joist.

Recommended spacing

Place the B40 pedestals every 50 cm along a first row, then step back 70 cm to lay a new row along the length of the joists.

Steps for building a wooden deck with B40 pedestals

1. Prepare the ground On a concrete slab or an existing deck, install directly. On bare soil: dig 15 cm, lay a geotextile felt, backfill with crushed gravel, compact and check the level.	2. Position the pedestals on the ground Lay a first row of pedestals every 50 cm, then a second row 70 cm further on, and so on up to the far end of the deck.
3. Fix the joists Lay the joists on the pedestal heads and screw them down at a minimum of two points through the drilled tab. Set the height allowing for a slight slope for water drainage.	4. Lay the decking Lay the boards perpendicular to the joists, starting against a wall with a 5 mm expansion gap. Screw 20 mm from the edge with special decking screws.

The B40 pedestal adjusts natively from 40 to 50 mm. It is compatible with the R20 extension (the same one used on the H40 and H50 slab pedestals), with a maximum of 3 extensions per pedestal.
