Solidor 10 mm reinforcement pedestal: security for your large formats

The current trend is toward ever-larger terrace tiles. However, large porcelain stoneware or natural stone slabs usually rest on 4 pedestals placed at their corners. The center of the tile is then left suspended, creating a fragile area in case of impact, heavy foot traffic, or heavy furniture. This is where the reinforcement pedestal comes in.

Unlike classic tile pedestals equipped with fins (spacers) used to create joints, this 10 mm reinforcement pedestal has a completely flat and smooth head. This unique design allows it to be slid anywhere under the tile, usually in the center, to provide a solid compression point and prevent coating rupture.

⚠️ Important information: This pedestal has a completely flat head and cannot be used to space or shim the corners of your tiles. It must be used in conjunction with finned pedestals (such as the classic fixed 10 mm tile pedestal).

How to position the reinforcement pedestal?

The reinforcement pedestal is inserted very easily during the installation of your decking, by combining its use with your standard tile pedestals.

  • 1. Peripheral installation: Place your 4 classic tile pedestals (with spacers) at the future corners of your tile.
  • 2. Adding reinforcement: Place the smooth-head reinforcement pedestal (Ref 003280) exactly in the center of the space delimited by the 4 corner pedestals. For elongated tiles (e.g., 120 x 40 cm), plan for 2 reinforcement pedestals spaced regularly under the tile.
  • 3. Tile installation: Lay the tile over the entire assembly. The smooth head of the central pedestal will perfectly support the heart of the tile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why not use a standard 10 mm pedestal and break off the fins?
Breaking the fins of a standard pedestal takes time and the surface is not always perfect, which can create a very slight imbalance under the tile. The reinforcement pedestal, molded directly with a smooth head, guarantees a 100% flat and secure support instantly, saving you valuable time on site.
Can this reinforcement pedestal be raised if my ground slopes in the center?
No, this is a fixed model not compatible with riser cylinders. However, to compensate for a missing millimeter under the center of your tile, you can use very thin shock-absorbing shims placed on the smooth head of the pedestal.
How many reinforcement pedestals should I plan for per m²?
This depends entirely on the format of your tiles. General rule: plan for 1 reinforcement pedestal per tile as soon as one of its sides exceeds 60 cm (e.g., 80 x 80 cm or 100 x 100 cm tiles).
