Advice for laying a terrace on a wooden or composite pedestal

  • Install only on stabilized ground or an existing concrete slab

The steps for laying a wooden terrace on pedestals

1/ Ground preparation

The pedestal for wooden terrace allows you to make a wooden or composite slat terrace on any type of ground provided that it is stabilized. Its wide circular base of 208 mm allows optimal support of the structure which is stabilized.

Preparing the ground is a mandatory step to stabilize and firmly maintain the structure of your terrace. However, there is no need to pour a concrete slab, unlike other terrace laying methods. While laying on pedestals the preparation of the ground is inexpensive, simpler and faster!

Equip yourself with the following:

  • A cord
  • Stakes
  • A spirit level
  • A shovel
  • A tape measure
  • A mason's box screed
  • A geotextile film
  • Crushed gravel

4 steps are enough to prepare your land to accommodate a wooden terrace on adjustable pedestals:

  1. Dig the ground for 15 cm;
  2. Place a geotextile felt there to eradicate the growth of weeds;
  3. Fill the hole with a 15 cm layer of gravel;
  4. Compact and make sure everything is level.

2/ Lay the pedestals, joists and decking boards

Laying a wooden terrace on Jouplast pedestals is extremely easy to do since it suffices to lay them on the ground without any fixings. Only 4 construction steps are enough to enjoy a solid and durable structure:

  1. Determine the location of the pedestals and their spacing. Once done, place the pedestals on the ground and adjust the height using the nut for an adjustment to the millimeter;
  2. Place the joists on the head of the pedestals: necessarily in natural wood or aluminium;
  3. Screw the joists onto the strip provided for this purpose to ensure excellent support for your wooden deck on pedestal;
  4. Fix the wooden boards on the joists using screws.
